Happy New Year sis & welcome to another edition of Wellness Wednesdays! As we kick off "new year, new me" season, I wanted to equip you with a few sustainable tips to help jumpstart your 2024 health journey....because this year we are in it for the life-long haul. Which means we are leaving ALL quick fixes and diet fads permanently in 2023. Amen???

Let's get started:

1. Plate Harmony

Start the year with a commitment to a balanced plate. Always fill it with vibrant veggies, lean proteins, and wholesome (whole grains). This simple approach ensures you get a variety of nutrients without the confusion.

In a nutshell...limit white and ultra processed foods and aim for whole foods that can be found in the perimeter of the grocery store.

2. Move Breaks

No time to exercise? Sneak in movement throughout the day. Set a timer every hour to stretch, walk, or do a quick workout. Walk the parking lot at work on your break, do 20 squats every 120 minutes, stand instead of sit. Every movement counts sis. Those small, consistent movements add up, and help keep your energy levels high and reducing the temptation for mindless snacking. If you struggle with the motivation to exercise, start here, and watch your energy increase over time.

3. Nutrient-dense Snacks

Make 2024 the year of delicious and nutritious snacks. Leave potato chips, cookies, and candies for rare occasions and get selective about what you snack on each day. Nutrient dense foods are highly nutritious and keep you satisfied longer due their high nutrient content. These snacks are usually high in protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and/or minerals. Keep a stash of nutrient-packed options like mixed nuts, Greek yogurt with berries, fruit & peanut butter smoothies, or veggie sticks with hummus. If you reach for carbs, make sure they are whole grain NOT white or processed. These types of snacks not only satisfy cravings but also support your wellness goals.
